Grade 5 Reading Strategies Rubric Description This rubric is designed to assess and guide fifth-grade students in developing essential reading strategies that support comprehension; critical thinking; and engagement with texts. It evaluates key skills such as summarizing; making inferences; identifying main ideas; using context clues; and connecting texts to personal experiences or other sources. By using this rubric; teachers can provide clear; structured feedback to help students strengthen their reading abilities while fostering independence and confidence. The rubric measures performance across four proficiency levels: emerging; developing; proficient; and advanced. At the emerging level; students demonstrate basic understanding but require significant support. Developing students show partial mastery with occasional guidance.
