This rubric is designed to assess student performance in Grade 3 Social Studies; specifically in the area of regional history. It evaluates students’ understanding of key historical events; figures; and cultural developments within their local or broader region. The rubric measures four key areas: knowledge of historical content; ability to make connections between past and present; use of primary and secondary sources; and effective communication of ideas. In the knowledge category; students demonstrate their grasp of important dates; people; and events that shaped the region. This helps build a foundational understanding of how history influences communities. The connections category assesses how well students relate historical events to modern life; fostering critical thinking and relevance. The sources category evaluates students’ ability to identify and use basic historical materials; such as photographs; maps; or simple documents. This skill encourages research habits and evidence-based learning. Finally; the communication category measures clarity and organization in presenting historical information; whether through writing; speaking; or visual projects. This supports literacy and presentation skills. Using this rubric provides clear expectations for students and allows teachers to give targeted feedback. It promotes engagement with local history while developing analytical and communication abilities. By focusing on these areas; students gain a deeper appreciation for their region’s heritage and its impact on society today. The rubric aligns with educational standards and encourages active; inquiry-based learning in social studies.
