Grade 2 Numbers Rubric Description This rubric is designed to assess students’ understanding and application of number concepts in Grade 2. It evaluates key skills such as counting; place value; addition; subtraction; and problem-solving. The rubric provides clear criteria for performance at different levels; helping teachers identify strengths and areas for growth while supporting targeted instruction. Students are assessed on their ability to count and compare numbers up to 1;000; demonstrating fluency with skip counting by 5s; 10s; and 100s. The rubric measures their grasp of place value; including the ability to read; write; and decompose three-digit numbers. Mastery of addition and subtraction within 100 is evaluated; with an emphasis on strategies such as regrouping and mental math. Problem-solving skills are also assessed; focusing on students’ ability to apply number concepts to real-world situations. The rubric supports differentiated learning by outlining expectations for emerging; developing; proficient; and advanced levels of understanding. Teachers can use it to provide meaningful feedback; guide instruction; and track progress over time. For students; the rubric offers a transparent framework for self-assessment; encouraging ownership of learning. Parents benefit from clear communication about their child’s mathematical development. By aligning with curriculum standards; this rubric ensures consistency in assessment while promoting a growth mindset. It fosters a deeper understanding of numbers; preparing students for more complex math concepts in later grades. The structured criteria help create a supportive learning environment where every student can achieve success in foundational numeracy skills.
