Grade 11 Music Rubric Description This rubric is designed to assess student performance in Grade 11 Music across key areas; including technical skill; musical expression; theoretical understanding; and collaborative participation. The criteria are structured to provide clear expectations while encouraging growth in musicianship; creativity; and critical listening. In the technical skills category; students are evaluated on their ability to perform with accuracy; fluency; and proper technique. This includes pitch; rhythm; articulation; and dynamics; ensuring students develop a strong foundation for advanced musical study. Mastery in this area reflects disciplined practice and attention to detail. Musical expression assesses the student’s ability to interpret and convey emotion through performance. This includes phrasing; stylistic awareness; and dynamic contrast. By focusing on expressive qualities; students learn to communicate meaningfully through music; enhancing their artistic sensitivity. Theoretical understanding evaluates knowledge of music theory; including notation; harmony; and analysis.
