The Grade 11 IB Spanish; French; or Mandarin B HL/SL rubric is designed to assess students’ language proficiency and intercultural understanding in a structured and comprehensive manner. It evaluates key skills such as reading; writing; listening; and speaking; ensuring students develop fluency and accuracy in their target language. The rubric emphasizes real-world communication; encouraging students to engage with authentic texts; conversations; and cultural contexts. For Higher Level (HL) students; the rubric includes more advanced criteria; such as analyzing complex texts and producing detailed written and spoken responses. Standard Level (SL) students focus on foundational skills; with an emphasis on clear and effective communication in everyday situations. Both levels prioritize grammatical accuracy; vocabulary range; and coherence; helping students build confidence in their language abilities. The rubric also assesses intercultural competence; requiring students to compare and reflect on cultural practices and perspectives. This fosters global awareness and empathy; preparing students for meaningful interactions in multilingual environments. Teachers use the rubric to provide targeted feedback; guiding students toward continuous improvement. By aligning with IB standards; the rubric ensures a rigorous and balanced approach to language learning. Students benefit from clear expectations; measurable progress; and opportunities to refine their skills through practice and reflection. The rubric supports holistic development; equipping learners with the linguistic and cultural tools needed for academic and professional success in an interconnected world.
