This Grade 12 Media Studies rubric is designed to assess students’ understanding and application of key media concepts; including analysis; production; and critical thinking. The rubric evaluates students on their ability to deconstruct media texts; create original media content; and reflect on the role of media in society. Each criterion is aligned with curriculum expectations to ensure a comprehensive evaluation of student learning. The rubric assesses media analysis by examining students’ ability to identify and interpret media techniques; messages; and biases. Students must demonstrate critical thinking by evaluating how media influences audiences and reflects cultural values. Strong analysis includes clear explanations supported by relevant examples from various media forms. For media production; the rubric evaluates technical skills; creativity; and adherence to industry standards. Students must plan; produce; and refine media works while applying appropriate conventions. Effective productions demonstrate purposeful use of media elements such as visuals; sound; and editing to convey meaning. The rubric emphasizes originality; coherence; and audience awareness in student projects. Reflection and communication are also key components. Students must articulate their learning process; justify creative choices; and assess the effectiveness of their work. Written and oral reflections should show depth of thought; self-evaluation; and connections to broader media concepts. This rubric supports student growth by providing clear expectations and constructive feedback. It encourages analytical and creative skills while fostering media literacy.
