The Grade 11 IB Global Politics HL/SL rubric provides a structured framework for assessing students’ understanding of key political concepts; theories; and real-world issues. It evaluates their ability to analyze global political systems; engage with contemporary challenges; and develop informed perspectives on power; sovereignty; and international relations. The rubric emphasizes critical thinking; research skills; and the application of political theories to case studies; preparing students for higher education and active citizenship. Students are assessed on their comprehension of core themes such as human rights; development; and conflict; as well as their ability to construct well-reasoned arguments supported by evidence. The rubric encourages interdisciplinary learning by connecting political concepts to history; economics; and social studies. Through written assignments; presentations; and discussions; students refine their communication skills and learn to articulate complex ideas clearly and persuasively. The HL (Higher Level) rubric includes additional depth; requiring extended research and a more nuanced analysis of global political dynamics. Both HL and SL (Standard Level) assessments foster independent inquiry; with students investigating real-world political issues through case studies and comparative analysis. This cultivates a deeper awareness of diverse perspectives and the interconnected nature of global politics. By engaging with the rubric; students develop essential academic and life skills; including problem-solving; ethical reasoning; and the ability to evaluate sources critically. The IB Global Politics course; guided by this rubric; equips learners with the tools to understand and engage with the political world; fostering a sense of responsibility and global awareness.
