Grade 11: World history (Latino/Hispanic studies) Rubric Description

This rubric is designed to assess student performance in a Grade 11 World History course with a focus on Latino and Hispanic studies. The criteria evaluate students’ understanding of key historical events; cultural contributions; and social developments within Latino and Hispanic communities across different time periods and regions. Students will demonstrate their ability to analyze primary and secondary sources; contextualize historical narratives; and draw connections between past and present issues. The rubric measures knowledge acquisition through factual accuracy; depth of historical insight; and the ability to identify significant figures; movements; and turning points in Latino and Hispanic history. Critical thinking is assessed by evaluating students’ capacity to compare perspectives; assess cause-and-effect relationships; and recognize biases in historical accounts. Written and oral communication skills are evaluated based on clarity; coherence; and the effective use of evidence to support arguments. Students will also be assessed on their engagement with cultural themes; including the influence of art; literature; religion; and traditions in shaping Latino and Hispanic identities. The rubric encourages students to explore the impact of colonialism; migration; and globalization on these communities. By meeting the rubric’s expectations; students will develop a deeper appreciation for diverse historical narratives and strengthen their analytical and research skills. This assessment tool ensures fairness and consistency in grading while providing clear expectations for student success. It supports educators in identifying areas where students excel or need improvement; fostering a more inclusive and comprehensive understanding of world history through the lens of Latino and Hispanic studies.
