The Grade 3 Fractions Rubric is designed to assess students’ understanding and application of foundational fraction concepts in a clear and structured manner. This rubric evaluates key skills such as identifying fractions; comparing fractions; and solving simple problems involving fractions. By using this tool; educators can measure student progress; identify areas for improvement; and provide targeted feedback to support learning. The rubric is divided into four performance levels: Beginning; Developing; Proficient; and Advanced. At the Beginning level; students demonstrate basic recognition of fractions as parts of a whole but may struggle with accuracy or consistency. Developing-level students show improved understanding by correctly identifying and representing fractions but may need guidance when comparing or applying them. Proficient students consistently solve fraction problems; explain their reasoning; and compare fractions with like denominators. Advanced students extend their knowledge by solving more complex problems; including those with unlike denominators; and can justify their solutions clearly. Using this rubric helps teachers align instruction with learning objectives and ensures students receive meaningful feedback.
