Preschool Reading Rubric This rubric is designed to assess and support early literacy development in preschool-aged children. It evaluates key reading skills that form the foundation for future academic success; including phonemic awareness; letter recognition; comprehension; and engagement with books. By using this tool; educators can identify strengths; track progress; and tailor instruction to meet individual learning needs. The rubric measures phonemic awareness by observing a child’s ability to recognize and produce rhyming words; identify beginning sounds; and segment simple words into syllables.
